The Laguna College of Art + Design (LCAD) Collector’s Choice Gala and Live Auction was held on Saturday, June 5, 2021. The event included an intimate, in-person VIP experience held at the Big Bend Campus, near the future site of the new LCAD Student Center. The show was also broadcast live, via Vimeo and Mobilecause simulcast, allowing people to share the experience virtually, from anywhere in the world. The event raised more than $170,000 in support of our annual fund and student merit scholarships.
Gala attendees were treated to a film-noir style short film, The Heist, produced by the LCAD Marketing and Communications team. The film, written and directed by LCAD's Director of Marketing and Communications Marc Lyncheski, also stars LCAD Trustees Jared and Kate Mathis, Director of Development Tracy Hartman, and features Richard MacDonald's Angelic Crystal, Atelier donated by Dawson Cole Fine Art. In an inspiring video, LCAD Graphic Design + Digital Media alumna and merit scholarship recipient, Jessica Necor (2015) recalled how her parents lost their business during the 2008 recession. “There was no money for college,” she said. “When I found out I was offered a full ride scholarship at LCAD, I was over-the-moon excited, and it changed everything for me.” View the full video below.
Another LCAD Alum, Kayla Janes (2021), provided a live demo of a painting that was also featured as part of the silent auction collection.
Featured auction items were a hand-picked collection of paintings and sculptures contributed by several artists and collectors, including Richard MacDonald through Dawson Cole Fine Art, Lisa Dallendorfer, Jorg Dubin, Jennifer Griffiths, Deborah Harold, Mark Jacobucci, Kayla Janes, Tim Lemen, Hilary McCarthy, Elizabeth McGhee, Siân Poeschl, Bradford J.
