GET A HEAD START ON YOUR ART + DESIGN EDUCATION
Laguna College of Art + Design (LCAD) offers summer courses that enable prospective students to explore the foundations of our curriculum, build fundamental skills valuable in the development of your admissions portfolio, and even earn transferable college credits at a fraction of the cost of standard tuition.
Note:On-Campus Residence Hall housing is not available during the summer.
*Final Day to Drop a course with 100% refund: June 26, 2020
ANIMATION PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT (NOT FOR CREDIT)
This course is for students interested in studying animation. Students will study the core principles and techniques of animation and learn how to apply fundamental observational drawing, life drawing, and visual storytelling skills toward Animation specific projects geared toward portfolio submission to Animation BFA programs
Note: LCAD’s Animation BFA program is highly competitive with specific portfolio requirements.
In addition to this course, It is advised that students applying to LCAD’s
Animation BFA program also maintain an active observational and life drawing practice outside of class.
*FD111 is also highly recommended for competitive animation applicants.

FD008 FANTASY SCULPTURE (NOT FOR CREDIT)
This class allows students to learn techniques and processes of creating maquettes and fantasy sculpture in clay. Working from their own multi-view drawings and reference materials, students will design and build armatures, learn to mix clay, and go through steps required to create interesting and detailed sculptures. With demonstrations and personalized critiques, students will explore dynamic sculpture design concepts, small-scale tool making, and texture/detail application.
This course has an additional Lab Fee $65

FD 110 DRAWING FUNDAMENTALS (2 STUDIO ELECTIVE CREDITS)
A two-unit foundation course that serves as an introduction to drawing with an emphasis on convincing representation of form in space. Students will study and practice elements of line, proportion, spatial relationships, value, and texture.
Recommended for: Fine Art, Illustration, Entertainment Design, Animation and Game Art applicants.

FD 111 FUNDAMENTALS OF FIGURE DRAWING (2 STUDIO ELECTIVE CREDITS)
A two-unit class that serves as an introduction to the human form. Students will work from the draped and undraped model. Emphasis is on accurate representation of the figure. Students will study and practice elements of anatomy, perception, gesture, contour, line, form, structure, and proportion.
Recommended for: Fine Art, Illustration, Entertainment Design, Animation and Game Art applicants.

FD 123 FUNDAMENTALS OF GRAPHIC DESIGN (2 STUDIO CREDITS)
A two-unit class that explores basic graphic design methods, processes, techniques, and formats. Assignments will introduce elements, media, and principles of graphic design from historical and contemporary perspectives and will emphasize visual representation aimed to communicate ideas and non-visual content.
Recommended for: Graphic Design + Digital Media Applicants.

FD007 GAME CAMP (1 STUDIO ELECTIVE CREDIT)
A one-unit course designed for students interested in gaining exposure to the many aspects of video game development through hands-on development of a playable game.

SUMMER TUITION SCHOLARSHIP
When you enroll for a course you will be able to select if you would like to be considered for a scholarship. If you select this option you will be provided a link in your confirmation email.
You will need to submit the following information:
- Letter of recommendation from an art instructor
- 5 digital images of your recent artwork
No scholarship application will be considered after May 1, 2020.

Students are encouraged to be proactive in seeking guidance and preliminary portfolio feedback from their admissions counselors to ensure they are developing skills in accordance with major specific portfolio guidelines and maximizing their chances of Acceptance and Scholarship.
