Application Info

In keeping with LCAD’s aesthetic philosophy, the LCAD’s Post-Baccalaureate gives students the opportunity to develop individual content in their studio practice while focusing on the skills associated with representational drawing and painting.


This exciting one-year, 30-unit program helps prepare students for further study at the graduate level, or it allows them to enhance their portfolios and artistic abilities for other professional endeavors.

A personal interview is recommended but not required.


Upon successful completion of all admission requirements—including your completed LCAD admissions form and submitting all of your transcripts, relevant test scores, and all other required documentation you will receive written notification of your admission to the program by the Post-Bacc Advisor Betty Shelton.

Personal Statement

Submit a 500 word personal statement of the your educational and artistic goals related to the Post Baccalaureate program


Letters of Recommendation

Submit two letters of recommendation from previous instructors, practicing artists, or college administrators



Submit a portfolio CD of 15 to 20 works along with an inventory list of works in the order they appear. Include the title, medium, size and date of completion for each piece. Clearly label all application materials.


The portfolio will ideally include recent (2-4 years) images of figure, portrait, or nature drawings and/or paintings done from direct observation. Still life, room interior, landscape, or narrative figure paintings (including work from imagination in part or whole) are encouraged, especially if representative of the applicant’s current creative work, or reflective of themes he/she wishes to pursue in their Post Baccalaureate studies.


Please include an Inventory Sheet which includes the title, medium, size and date of completion for each image. Files should be saved at 72dpi at around 1mb each. Title each file “last name_first name 01.jpeg, last name_first name 02.jpeg” making sure each number corresponds with the Inventory Sheet. All images should be included in a master file folder titled “last name_first name Portfolio”


In addition to being responsible for following the same application procedures as domestic students, all international students have additional documentation requirements.


International Transcripts

All international transcripts must be submitted to IERF for conversion into US equivalents. There is a separate fee and time requirement for this service.

Students whose native language is not English must take the TOEFL exam (the Test of English as a Foreign Language) and achieve a minimum score of 550 on the paper-based test and 79 on the Internet based test or IELTS with a minimum score of 6. International students are required to take an English proficiency test during Orientation Week.


The TOEFL or IELTS sexam may be waived only at the discretion of the Admissions Committee, through the completion of English as a Second Language courses and/or having attended schools in the United States for an extended period of time. The Admission Committee may determine that the student has the required proficiency in English and has the ability to communicate appropriately with proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing.


Declaration of Finances, I-20 and F1 Student Visas

Once you have been admitted you will receive a formal letter stating so and asking for additional documentation so that we can issue your I-20. These documents include:


Submit a Declaration of Finances Form from you, your parent, sponsor, or sponsoring agency and an official bank statement. The bank statement must show a balance equal to or greater than the cost of attendance at the college for one year (Cost of Attendance may vary year to year—the official amount can be obtained from the Office of Admissions + Financial Aid).


Upon your acceptance to the BFA or Certificate program and once LCAD has received your Declaration of Finances and nonrefundable $250 deposit fee, we will send you an I-20 document. The completed I-20 must be taken to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your country to obtain an F-1Student Visa.
