Dave Hobrecht, LCAD Illustration professor, talks about his journey to the arts, why he loves teaching, and the special talents of the students.

The Story

Laguna College of Art + Design illustration instructor, Dave Hobrecht, discusses his journey into sports arts, teaching at the College, and why LCAD students are special. Dave is the owner of Hobrecht Sports Art. He is a sports enthusiast whose life was changed at the age of 13 when he was involved in an accident. His arts journey soon started over the next 18 months, creating his very unique style using charcoal and pastel for his paintings.

His work includes working with stars like Floyd Mayweather; Topps baseball cards; Steiner Sports (Derek Jeter & Mariano Rivera); Deacon Jones Foundation with the NFL; Ferrari; Oscar De La Hoya; Willie Mays; Cal Ripken, Jr.; Barry Larkin; John Elway; Tony Hawk; University of Southern California; UCLA (Bill Walton); University of Texas (Earl Campbell); Louisiana State University (Shaquille O’Neal, Pete Maravich, and Billy Cannon); and more.
